The 24th Busan International Film Festival Special Program 'KIM Jimi, Revival'

The 24th Busan International Film Festival presents a special program ‘KIM Jimi, Revival’ from October 4th to 6th at BIFF Square, Nampo-dong. Kim Jimi will meet audiences for three days, participating as a hostess in screenings and talk shows.

The best star of Korean cinema, Kim Jimi is a legendary actress who has starred in more than 700 films by Korean virtuosos such as Kim Ki-young and Im Kwon-taek. Thanks to her remarkable charm also known as ‘Once-in-a-100-year Beauty’ and exceptional charisma, she has reigned as a star for ages with record-breaking most-starred-films, which is hitherto unprecedented in global film history.

Recognized for her outstanding performances by winning numerous awards, including the Asia-Pacific Film Festival and Daejong Film Awards, Kim also worked as a film producer in the 80s and 90s. Selected as the heroine of the Korean Cinema Retrospective by the 15th Busan International Film Festival in 2010 and awarded the Order of Cultural Merit at the 9th Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards, Kim is remembered by audiences as the best cineaste representative of the 20th century.

The Busan International Film Festival with Korean Film Archive screens six representative films of Kim’s life in cinema for free of charge. Various films from the 60s, 70s, and 80s will screen, such as Ticket, where she worked both as a lead actress and a producer, and Bhiksuni, in which she had to suffer from the disappointment of production being canceled. Director Chung Jin-woo of Chun-Hui will also attend a special talk after the screening.

Besides screenings, talk shows with splendid guests will be held. Actor Ahn Seong-gi who made his debut with Kim in The Twilight Train will describe vivid memories and behind stories about the time when they worked together. Actress Jeon Do-yeon and Kim Gyuri, as well as actor Lee Young-ha and Cho Jinwoong, will participate as guests in sharing truthful stories of Kim’s life as an actress.

A special exhibition for ‘Kim Jimi, Revival’ will also be offered. Audiences will be able to appreciate posters from Kim’s films interpreted in a modern way. The exhibition will be held on the first floor of the Busan Museum of Movies from October 2nd to December 31st at no charge.

Audiences will recall the history of 100 years of Korean cinema through a special program of ‘KIM Jimi, Revival’ which will shed light on Kim Jimi who has lived as a self-reliant woman as well as a tough being.
