[TGS 2016] SIEJA Presentation Session – Gravity Rush 2

On September 15, in Makuhari Messe, Chiba ken, Japan, ‘Tokyo Game Show 2016’ was opened.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary this year, ‘Tokyo Game Show 2016,’ the show that represents Japan, is co-hosted by Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) and Nikkei BP, and specially cooperated with DWANGO. The event is organized into a business-day on September 15 and 16, when only game business people and mass communication officials can enter, and a public-day on September 17 and 18, when all the visitors can enter.

At New Otani Hotel near the event hall, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Asia (SIEJA) progressed a presentation session presenting a new title. In this session, it introduced about the main titles published by SIE affiliated developers and major publishers and explained the features of the games.

On the first day of event, ‘Gravity Rush 2’ session, which is an action adventure game developed by SIE Japan Studio, was prepared, and director Keiichiro Toyama, was a presenter for the session.

Toyama introduced the development direction that ‘Gravity Rush 2’ is focused on containing all the things that he wanted to show because he couldn’t put all the stories into the previous work ‘Gravity Rush: the Girl Fell into the Sky’ as it is prepared as an initial title of PS Vita. Especially, he emphasized that it will show the volume that fits a game for stationary console as the size of the map is increased 2.5-3 times and the number of mission also increased more than 2 times when compared to the previous work.

As the stage of the game, apart from Hexa Ville of the previous work, a new city with a concept of Asia and Latin America appears in the game, so users can play the game in a new atmosphere. Composer Kohei Tanaka filled the background music of the new stage with new moods of music recorded by using each country’s unique instrument to express expanded world view.

The main character, Kat, can change her gravity characteristic, so users can choose her gravity style between ‘Luna style,’ which makes her lighter that she doesn’t get hurt even when fell from the high place, and ‘Jupiter style,’ which has a great deal of destructive power instead of getting slower walking speed. Also, through a system called Talisman, it became possible to use strengthened ability, so users can experience more strategic game play.

Continued from the previous work, the challenge mode in ‘Gravity Rush 2’ is upgraded that it has a challenge system apart from record competitions with friends. Toyama introduced that, as the ability can be different depending on which Talisman is used, it is possible to get a tremendous record by using Talisman well in accordance with the challenge mission, and breaking a record is a trend even in the development team.

Through photo mode, which can take a photo during playing the game, users can take unique pictures with applying various clothes and items in a variety of situations. They can take Kat’s special snap shots by using selfie function, which uses tripod, and gesture function. They also can experience missions such as filling the album by taking photos of suggested themes.

Meanwhile, Toyama said, “The game’s basic concept of controlling gravity is simple, but I think it is a great concept, and it will be possible to present various expressions.” And, “I want to keep creating action style games with gravity concept.”
