The first episode of the ‘Cask 88 Lock-In’ airs at 7.30pm BST, to keep whisky enthusiasts around the globe entertained with a diverse mix of comedy, music and Scottish whisky features, in full compliance with social distancing.
Scottish whisky broker and award winning independent bottler Cask 88 today launched their online channel, ‘Cask 88 Lock-In’, offering a combination of sketches, interviews with industry figures and whisky enthusiasts, musical performances, and Scottish whisky news and features, with the aim to connect whisky enthusiasts internationally for a digital happy (half) hour.
With the COVID-19 pandemic causing bars, pubs and restaurants to close across the globe, the team at Cask 88 aim to fill the gap for socially isolated fans of Scottish whisky, helping them to raise a glass collectively across the web, while championing organisations that are working towards relieving the impact of the global pandemic.
Hosted by Scottish whisky writer Sam Laing, ‘Cask 88 Lock-In’ will air on the Cask 88 website and social media channels every Wednesday at 7.30pm BST, starting Wednesday 15 April 2020, with episodes available on-demand after that date. An extended cut of interviews from each episode will also be available on-demand.
For each episode in the series, Cask 88 will donate to an organisation working to relieve the impact of the COVID-19 virus, while encouraging viewers to make their own donations. The first episode will raise money for the WHO Solidarity Response Fund, as championed by Wellcome’s COVID-Zero Fund, an initiative which aims to raise at least $8 billion by the end of April, to cover the global funding shortfall for vaccines, treatments and testing for coronavirus.
In the first episode, Sam will be getting tips on how to pair food with whisky during lockdown from author and broadcaster Rachel McCormack ( Author of Chasing the Dram; panelist on BBC Radio 4’s The Kitchen Cabinet) and discussing lockdown drams with Glenfiddich Single Malt Brand Ambassador Mark Thomson. Musician and Whisky Writer Felipe Schrieberg (One half of the Rhythm & Booze Project; Forbes Whisky Columnist; World Whisky Awards and World Cognac Awards Judge) provides us with some lockdown blues straight from his living room.
“A huge welcome, and thank you, to everyone who tunes in to our weekly deep dive into the world of whisky,” said presenter Sam Laing. “In no way should this be taken as medical advice, but you wouldn’t need to tell us twice: Stay Safe, Stay Indoors, Pour Yourself a Dram, and Watch the Cask 88 Lock-In.”
