ID Now and saliva PCR tests increase availability for most comprehensive menu of COVID tests in San Diego

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--#ARCpointLabs--ARCpoint Labs North San Diego is augmenting its already comprehensive menu of COVID-19 tests for businesses and consumers with two additional molecular tests: The SalivaDirect™ and Abbott ID Now™ tests. These two tests add more capabilities for ARCpoint Labs to test people at various stages of coronavirus infection.

The SalivaDirect Test is a non-invasive, molecular test for the qualitative detection of COVID-19 infection, being offered by ARCpoint via drive-through at car-side. Developed by Yale University, this PCR test was designed to make COVID-19 testing more accessible, safer, and more comfortable for consumers by using saliva that can be collected by the patients themselves under professional supervision, rather than an invasive nasal swab. The test has emergency use authorization (EUA) issued by FDA and reflects 100% clinical specificity and 94% clinical sensitivity. Users should have no food or drink for 30 minutes prior to sample collection to assure accuracy. Results are available 2-3 days after collection.

In addition to offering the rapid antigen test by Quidel, ARCpoint Labs will soon also provide the rapid molecular test by Abbot, ID Now. The ID Now test is purported to be one of the most reliable, fastest molecular tests on the market, according to Abbott, and can produce results from a nasal swab in as few as 15 minutes. It uses an FDA approved, CLIA-waived, portable instrument and isothermal technology, proprietary enzymes and constant temperature control to achieve the fastest available RNA amplification to detect coronavirus.

Jennifer Sandberg, MSN, RN, owner of ARCpoint Labs North San Diego, says, “Our trained staff provides both viral testing and antibody testing, following all safety protocols from health officials, to deliver safe service. We offer patient testing in our own facility in Sorrento Valley and mobile testing services for businesses to help people make informed decisions to slow COVID-19 spread.”

Viral testing is appropriate for those who may have been exposed or who have COVID-19; it identifies current infection. Antibody testing uses blood tests to identify a previous infection of COVID-19 and should be conducted 14 days after exposure or 7 days after symptoms subside.
