Porsche Korea (Holger Gerrmann, CEO of Porsche Korea Ltd.) announced on November 26th that it will officially launch its first pure electric sports car 'Porsche Taycan' in Korea.

Holger Gerrmann, CEO of Porsche Korea, stated “We are very pleased to introduce the Taycan, the brand's first pure electric sports car that sets the standard for future sports cars and that marks the opening of a new era for Porsche in the Korean market” and added, “We plan to further strengthen Porsche’s electric sports car portfolio by sequentially introducing the 'Taycan Turbo S' and the 'Taycan Turbo' in 2021, starting with the official launch of the 'Taycan 4S' into the new Porsche electromobility era.

On this day, the 'Porsche Taycan Arena' emphasized the distinctive strength of the Taycan in-cluding superb performance, typical sports car traction, and sustainable output through pre-senting special performances such as kinetic art using the setting of the Universe, hologram displays, and a warp tunnel, that reflect the artistic interpretation of the main characteristics of the Taycan.

The new ‘Taycan 4S’ is available with two battery sizes and delivers with the Performance bat-tery up to 530 horsepower (530PS, 390kW) or with the Performance battery Plus up to 571 horsepower (571PS, 420kW). A single-deck Performance battery with a gross capacity of 79.2 kWh comes as standard. The two-deck Performance battery Plus with the total capacity of 93.4 kWh is also available as an option. In both variants, the Taycan 4S accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds, and the top speed is also 250 km/h in both cases. Maximum charging power is 225 kW and 270 kW, respectively. The driving range based on domestic certification is 289km for the performance battery plus, and the performance battery model is currently undergoing the certification process in Korea.

The Taycan is the first production vehicle with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts for electric cars. As a result, the batteries can be charged with higher currents (direct current, DC), thus speeding up the process significantly: in just over five minutes, the battery can be recharged for a range of up to 100km. Under ideal conditions, the Performance battery Plus can be charged from 5 to 80 percent SoC (state of charge) in 22.5 minutes using high-power charging (HPC) stations with a charging power of up to 270 kW.

The Taycan 4S has two exceptionally efficient electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear axle – making the cars all wheel drive. Both the range and the continuous power of the drive benefit from the efficiency of the PSM (permanently excited synchronous machines). The electric motor, transmission and pulse controlled inverter are each combined into a compact drive module. All in all, the modules have the highest power density (kW per litre of package space) of all the electric powertrains on the market today.

The integrated Porsche 4D Chassis Control analyses and synchronises all chassis systems in real time. The innovative chassis systems include adaptive air suspension with threechamber technology including PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) electronic damper control, as well as the optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport (PDCC Sport) electromechanical roll stabilisation system including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus). The allwheel drive control with two electric motors and the recuperation system are unique. Thanks to the Taycan’s high recuperation output of up to 265 kW, approximately 90 percent of braking operations in everyday use are performed by the electric machines alone, without activating the wheel brakes.

With its clear, puristic design that reflects Porsche’s design DNA, the Taycan signals the beginning of a new era. At the same time, it retains the unmistakable Porsche design DNA. From the front, it looks particularly wide and flat with highly contoured wings. The silhouette is shaped by the sporty roof line sloping downward to the rear. The highly sculpted side sections are also characteristic. The sleek cabin, the drawn-in rear C-pillar and the pronounced shoulders of the wings result in a sharply emphasised rear, typical of the brand. There are also innovative elements such as the glass-effect Porsche logo, which has been integrated into the light bar at the rear. The outstanding aerodynamics with a Cd value from 0.22 makes a significant contribution to low energy consumption and thus long range.

The cockpit also signals the start of a new era with its clear structure and completely new architecture. The free-standing, curved instrument cluster forms the highest point on the dashboard. This places a clear focus on the driver axis. A central 10.9 inch infotainment display and an optional passenger display are combined to form an integrated glass band in a black-panel look.

With the Taycan, Porsche offers an entirely leather-free interior for the first time. Interiors made from innovative recycled materials underscore the sustainable concept of the electric sports car. “Foot garages” – recesses in the rear footwell – provide improved rear seating comfort, while at the same time allowing for the low car height and flyline typical for sports cars.

The profile of the driving modes in the new Taycan essentially follows the same philosophy as in the other Porsche model series. This is supplemented by special settings to make optimum use of the possibilities offered by the purely electric drive. Four driving modes are available: 'Range‘, ‘Normal‘, ‘Sport‘ and ‘Sport Plus‘. In addition, individual systems can be configured as required in the Individual mode.

The price of the Taycan 4S is 145.6 million KRW, including value added tax. The 'Taycan 4S' is equipped with a Performance Battery as standard, and the Performance Battery Plus is optional. Delivery to customers will begin in mid December.

Meanwhile, Porsche Korea caught public's attention by introducing the hologram artwork, in which 761 hologram horses roamed all over Seoul for three days from the 24th ahead of the Taycan's launch. The 761 horses represent the genesis of the Taycan, 'soul of a spirited young horse,' as well as the horse in the center of the Porsche Crest, and visualizes the number that represents the highest output of the 'Taycan Turbo S'. The video will be released today through Porsche Korea's Instagram page.
