Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) 2022, which has officially announced the launch of Busan Story Market, the world’s first IP sales market, has unveiled 30 Korean IP selections from 24 companies.

Busan Story Market is an IP sales market where stories, the foundation for all content, are traded in order to be reproduced in various media. This new platform has adopted and integrated the function of the E-IP Market (Entertainment Intellectual Property Market), which was established in 2012 and has selected 192 IP submissions over the past 10 years. This new market is generating much excitement as an expanded trading platform where promising and salient IPs from all over Asia and Korea can be selected for business pitching opportunities with industry officials. The platform will also allow content providers to run their booths directly, providing them with opportunities to conduct on-site B2B transactions.

- Korean IPs Continue to Forge Ahead with the K-Content Wave Creative Experimental Content, and the Rise of Historical, Drama, and Thriller Genres!

Proving the keen interest in the new IP trading market, 201 projects from 70 companies were submitted during the Busan Story Market submission period from May 23rd (Mon) to June 10th (Fri). Among the 201 projects that were submitted, a total of 30 stellar Korean IPs, consisting of 7 books, 11 webtoons, 5 web novels, and 7 stories, with paramount potential for successful cinematic adaptation were confirmed as the final selections.

The participation of returning noteworthy production companies, such as GOZKNOCK ENT, KYOBO BOOK CENTRE, STUDIO LICO, STORYWIZ, and TOYOU'S DREAM, as well as newly entering webtoon productions and platform companies, such as KENAZ, WOOWA BROTHERS, and JAKGA COMPANY, has more than doubled compared to last year, further escalating the high expectations for Busan Story Market.

As recent IP markets often go beyond cinematic adaptation to be remade internationally, this year’s selections are turning heads with a rich and diverse pool of projects that attempt to put a creative twist on the existing genre.

Participants can experience a number of diverse works such as the suspense genre in Private Lives, Checked! (KENAZ) and the thrill-infused Your Package Has Arrived (JAEDAM MEDIA); the mystery occult genre of Dear Telos (NABICLUB); the sporty action webtoon, Rematch (TOYOU'S DREAM); and The Noble Lady next to the King (STORYWIZ), which portrays a royal romance with a progressive female narrative. In addition, the popularity of period dramas has noticeably increased as seen in the numerous historical drama submissions, which include Hwan Hon Jeon (SANSUYA), The Royal Florist in Chosun (STUDIO YOSIN), My Lovely Spring Bird (SEA EDUTECH), Women's Murder Club in CHOSUN : Unsolved Case Files (UNDERLINE), and The Tale of Witch in Joseon (JOARA).

- The Expansion of the IP Market is Catching the Attention of Many Organizations! Participation of the Seoul International Book Fair, the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, and the Korean Film Producers Association

Busan Story Market shines not only in its exceptional standards for IP selection, but also in its attempt to revitalize the market by instating B2B trading methods. In past years, only IPs that passed the selection process could participate in the market. However, from this year on, any company with IP sources capable of media adaptation can take part in the trade of books, webtoons, web novels, games, and story IPs via on-site booths.

Furthermore, this year's Busan Story Market is attracting much attention as major institutions and companies, such as the Seoul International Book Fair, the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, the Korean Film Producers and Association, are expected to actively engage in the market to conduct business meetings and copyright transactions. The Seoul International Book Fair will set up an IP Center during Busan Story Market and provide business opportunities among companies. Such companies include Korea’s major publishers with IPs possible for cinematic adaptation, such as DAEWON C.I., MUNHAKDONGNE PUBLISHING CO., LTD., MINUMSA PUBLISHING GROUP, EUNHAENG NAMU PUBLISHING CO., LTD., and CHANGBI PUBLISHERS are expected to participate as well. The Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency will introduce the IP content of webtoon artists based in Busan. The Korean Film Producers Association will introduce its member companies’ previous projects, apt for domestic and international remakes, and further revitalize the IP sales market.

Through this platform, companies with IPs will be recognized for their fresh ideas and strategizing abilities, while industry officials, who seek K-content with new topics, can explore a high-quality content pool at Busan Story Market.

ACFM 2022, which is creating a thundering buzz of excitement from the unveiling of its 30 official Korean IP selections with originality, organization, and popularity, will welcome film and audiovisual industry officials at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) from October 8th (Sat) to 11th (Tue).
