The 23rd Busan International Film Festival presents the Ryuichi Sakamoto’s exhibition ‘IS YOUR TIME-BUSAN VERSION’ during the festival. With his attendance as a recipient of the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award, this exhibition is expected to show his thoughts on music and the nature, and his contribution to a better world for humankind. The exhibition opens on to meet the audiences during the entire festival dates and is located at Busan Cinema Center BIFF HILL.

‘IS YOUR TIME’ began from a piano in a high school that was destroyed by tsunami during 2011 Japan Earthquake. Years later, Ryuichi Sakamoto happened to visit a town and encountered the piano and played, and then the exhibition began. The piano, destroyed by a tsunami, transforms its lost instrumental power, into a vehicle for music tuned by nature. This ‘tsunami piano’ is played by earthquake data collected from all over the world in real time and transforms music through a program, to makes melodies through an auto-play function. It has been transformed into a new musical instrument, which senses the movement of the earth, and sings.

Ryuichi Sakamoto has showed an innovative in ‘installation music’, where he combines audio and images, after he released his new album called ‘async’, that took after 8 years to finalize. ‘IS YOUR TIME’ originally began as an extension of this installation music. The original piece “IS YOUR TIME” was commissioned and exhibited by NTT Inter Communication Center [ICC] in 2017-2018, and now opens in Busan for the 23rd Busan International Film Festival.

The winner of The Asian Filmmaker of the Year 2018 Ryuichi Sakamoto is also performing for the opening ceremony of the 23rd Busan International Film Festival on October 4th. During the opening ceremony performance, Ryuichi Sakamoto will play a song on a full-concert grand piano (supported by the cooperation of Yamaha Music Korea). Further, he will attend a press conference with director Shizuno Kobun for My TYRANO: Together, Forever (2018) and a hand-printing event at Outdoor stage on the Haeundae beach.

The 23rd Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 4, 2018 to October 13, 2018.
Asian Film Market will be held from October 6, 2018 to October 9, 2018.
Asian Project Market will be held from October 7, 2018 to October 9, 2018.
