An Asian Film Market 2018 Opening Announcement

The Asian Film Market 2018 successfully opened on October 6th during the 23nd Busan International Film Festival.

Established in 2006, Asian Film Market serves as a total film market covering all stages of film industry from pre-production to film sales. Asian Film Market 2018 will be held alongside Asian Project Market (APM) and Entertainment Intellectual Property (E-IP) Market at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival.

The number of pre-registered participants exceeded last year’s number by approximately 56%, amounting to 1,339 film industry professionals from 50 countries; this also included 425 buyers from 32 countries and 171 companies from 23 countries that have signed up for Sales Booths. Newcomers to the Asian Film Market include The Open Reel (Italy), Film Constellation (UK), Golden Scene, Mei Ah Entertainment (Hong Kong), CREi Inc. (Japan), and companies relevant to E-IP (Entertainment Intellectual Property). We are also happy to announce that the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) also joined along with an increased number of Philippines companies.

The Market Screening at the Asian Film Market 2018 presents 69 screenings of 64 films from 11 countries. A total of 38 films are market premieres and 16 films are official selections at the 23rd Busan International Film Festival. In addition, Telefilm Canada joined the Market Screening again this year, with 3 genre films.

The Entertainment Intellectual Property Market (E-IP Market) and Book To Film were held successfully today. The events introduced 15 original books suitable for film production and the Asian IP Showcase presented 12 Japanese and Chinese books suitable for visualization and, selling secondary copyrights for the books in connection with local publishers through business agreements with the Asian Film Market, Eric Yang Agency and BC Agency. E-IP Pitching will be held tomorrow at Event Room, Exhibition Center 2, BEXCO, presenting original contents from web novels and web comics that will be adaptable across multiple media platform.

The 21st Asian Project Market (APM), the biggest film project market in Asia, runs for 3 days from October 7th and features 29 projects by directors and producers that are actively engaged in the industry and prospective filmmakers, selected through fierce competition in the number of applied projects increased by 30% compared to the previous year. The number of meeting requests has surpassed last year’s figure by about 150 requests, and the regional diversity of the applicants has also expanded. The Festival and Market Badge holders can book an on-site meeting with official APM projects at the APM Zone, Hall 4E, Exhibition Center 2, BEXCO.

The Asian Film Market 2018 continues until Tuesday, October 9th at Hall 4C-F, Exhibition Center 2, BEXCO.
