On May 30, ARM opened ‘Mali-G71’ through a press conference held at Taipei International Convention Center(TICC) in Taipei, Taiwan.

‘Mali-G71’ is ARM’s next generation GPU that is designed on the base of Bifrost, the 3rd generation GPU architecture. Bifrost architecture raises ‘energy efficiency’ through index-based vertex shading and function of simplifying pipeline connections, and evelopment convenience by being optimized to industry standard API as well as Vulkan. Moreover, on the base of system coherent, it can be simultaneously used in the computers with different bases.

It is the most highly scalable product than any other ARM’s GPUs released so far. In addition, compared to the existing ‘Mali-T880,’ graphical performance, power efficiency and performance per unit area are improved 50%, 20% and 40% respectively. When using the product, it is possible to implement 1.5 times higher performance than 2016’s devices that used ‘Mali-T880.’ Especially, ARM claimed that ‘Mali-G71’ could show almost equal performance to low power (25W) external GPU by consuming only 4W power.

Furthermore, it satisfies 120Hz of refresh rate, 4K of resolution, 4ms of graphics pipeline latency, 4x of multi-sample anti-aliasing, etc., so it is the best device to implement virtual reality, which is recently emerging as the main function in the mobile device.

Besides, by reducing footprints through development of radiating technology, it is expected to play a big role in reducing the size of device.
