Ferrari held the official launch event of Ferrari Portofino on Floating Island in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of March 28th, 2018. The event was organized to launch Ferrari's new convertible GT 'Ferrari Portofino' in Korea and to introduce its features. The officials including Dieter Knechtel, Ferrari’s CEO for Far East & Middle-East region, Kwang-cheol Kim, CEO of FMK, which is Ferrari’s official importer, attended the event.

“Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful convertible GT ever in the Ferrari line-up that has made breakthrough in all respects such as design and performance over previous models. This model, perfectly matched to sportiness, practicality, comfortable ride and elegance, is sure to attract a lot of attention and love to Korean customers with keen eye.” – said Dieter Knechtel.

According to the announcement, Ferrari Portofino was named Portofino, one of Italy's premier attractions. Ferrari Portofino is the most powerful convertible GT car in the Ferrari line-up with a maximum output of 600 hp and a reach of 100 km/h in 3.5 second. Also, since it features a retractable hardtop, wide luggage compartment and spacious driver's seat, and 2+ seats, it is suitable for a drive and close trip.

Ferrari Portofino is powered by Twin-Turbo V8 engine. With new parts and precise measurements of engine management software, it boasts 40 hp more power than its predecessor, ‘California T’. Here, the new pistons, con-rods, and intake system design are equipped to maximize the efficiency of the eight-cylinder engine. The new one-piece-cast exhaust header reduces power loss, which plays an important role in creating throttle responses without turbo lag, which is a feature of Ferrari. This technology, combined with Variable Boost Management, which adjusts torque delivery to selected gears, enables faster acceleration on all gears and leads to higher fuel efficiency compared to other models.

Moreover, Ferrari Portofino is an enhanced model for automotive dynamics with the introduction of new technological alternatives. For the first among Ferrari lineup, it has been adopted a third-generation electronic rear differential (E-Diff3), electronic stability control and F1-Trac, which improves the mechanical grip and control ability of the vehicle in critical situations.

In addition, electronic power steering (EPS) was applied for the first among Ferrari GT cars, while E-Diff3 reduced the steering ratio by 7%, so the vehicle’s stability is maintained while reactivity is increased. On top of that, a magnetorheological damping system (SCM-E), enhanced by a dual-coil technology that increases grip on irregular road surfaces while reducing rocking, provides a dynamic sense of speed.

▲ Elegance and dynamism are added to the smooth silhouette, making it sporty.

▲ Comfortable ride and practicality are also important features.

Meanwhile, the Ferrari Design Center designed a retractable hardtop coupe convertible in a two-box fastback form by emphasizing sportiness by adding elegance and dynamism to the smooth silhouette.

Ferrari's Aerodynamics Department and design team worked together to make the curved radiator grille at the front of the car more accentuated by the horizontal full-LED headlamps. They also made air intake, through which the air is drawn through the front wheel arch to reduce drag, located invisible to the inside of the headlight edge. In the case of the rear, the spacing of the taillight was widened. Here, the space for the new lightweight retractable hard top (RHT) is placed on the rear of the bodywork.

Another advantage of Ferrari Portofino is its comfortable ride and practicality. This model is equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen with an infotainment system, an air conditioning system for passengers' comfortable riding experience during both normal and open-top driving, a new steering wheel, 18-way electronically adjustable front seats that extend the back seats, and a display at a passenger seat. In addition, through a new wind deflector, airflow inside the vehicle is reduced by 30% when driving with an open-top and the noise generated by aerodynamics is significantly reduced, so that the ride comfort and practicality are further enhanced.
