Independent Filmmaker in Busan Donates to Support Production of Documentary Jiseok

On April 10, independent filmmaker Kim Sunyoung of Busan, donated 80 million KRW (approximately USD 80,000) to the Busan International Film Festival to support the production of documentary Jiseok.

Kim’s connection with the Busan International Film Festival’s Chairman Lee Yong-kwan and the late Deputy Director Kim Jiseok goes back 34 years. In 1985, Kim Jiseok organized a film school in Alliance Française de Busan and invited Lee Yong-kwan, professor at Kyungsung University in those days, to give lectures. Inspired by the lectures, Kim under took a career in filmmaking.

Kim stated that the funding is intended to aid in the production of the documentary Jiseok in regards to their relationship.

The Busan International Film Festival will allocate the full cash amount towards the documentary Jiseok. The festival expects the fund to stabilize and bolster the production environment of the team. It is also excepted to be meaningful news to worldwide filmmakers and audiences awaiting the documentary Jiseok.

Documentary Jiseok will capture the life and moments of the late Deputy Director Kim Jiseok, who devoted himself to discovering and supporting young filmmakers in Asia in addition to his essential role in establishing the Busan International Film Festival as one of the world’s best film festivals. Documentary Jiseok is currently in production and is expected to have a world premiere next year at the Busan International Film Festival 2020.

The 24th Busan International Film Festival will be held from October 3, 2019 to October 12, 2019.
