On Tuesday January 21st 2025, the Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Korea, H.E. Emilia Gatto, will host the “Italian Space Day” at the Residence of Italy in Seoul (34-4 UN Village 2-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul).
The event, organized in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the launch of San Marco, the first Italian satellite, which established Italy as the third nation to launch its own satellite in space. The “Italian Space Day” anniversary celebration, established in 2021, aims to promote knowledge of space activities and Italy's significant contributions to this strategic field.
The opening session of the event will begin at 3pm with a welcome address by Ambassador Gatto, followed by the presentations from the Vice Administrator of the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), Mr. John Lee, and the Director General of the Italian Space Agency(ASI), Mr. Luca Vincenzo Maria Salamone. The keynote speech will be delivered by Italian astronaut and test pilot Maurizio Cheli.
The second session, starting at 4:50pm, will feature presentations by academic and industrial representatives from the space sector, including Leonardo, Hanwha Aerospace, Telespazio, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, hales Alenia Space Italia, Boryung, Yonsei University and Sapienza University of Rome.
All presentations will be in English, with Korean simultaneous interpretation. The event will conclude with a networking reception, starting at 6:15pm, providing an opportunity to foster new scientific and technological collaborations between Italy and Korea in the space sector.
