On May 30, Computex Taipei, which is organized by TAITRA and TCA(Taipei Computer Association), held an international press conference at TICC(Taipei International Convention Center) and introduced about Computex 2016, which will be held for five days from May 31.

From May 31 to June 4, The 36th Computex 2016 is held at TWTC(Taipei World Trade Center), TWTC Nangang(Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center), and TICC(Taipei International Convention Center). More than 1,600 companies from 30 countries around the world will participate, and about five thousand booths will be set up. With the event organization covering global trends such as IoT and innovation startup, Computex broke from image of a hardware-centered manufacturer and achieved positive results such as largely increased number of the first participants.

Under four themes, which are IoT, innovative startup, solution and gaming, Computex 2016 established three theme exhibitions, IoT applications-centered ‘SmarTEX’, startup-centered ‘InnoVEX’, and Apple MFi certified peripheral products and applications related theme exhibition, ‘iStyle’. At the same time, various events such as CPX conference, where information about trends across the industry could be obtained, InnoVEX forum and d&i awards are prepared.



Walter Yeh, executive vice president of TAITRA, introduced that this year’s Computex 2016 will be established as an event, which creates partnership at the internet-computing ecosystem. He stressed that Computex is trying to change its previous image of ‘hardware-centered manufacturer,’ and keep up with the global trends such as IoT and innovative startup. The main themes of this event are IoT, innovative startup, business solution and gaming, and the new events are prepared.

In this Computex, three theme exhibitions are newly presented; IoT applications-centered ‘SmarTEX’, startup-centered ‘InnoVEX’, and Apple MFi certified peripheral products and applications related theme exhibition, ‘iStyle’. Especially, in ‘InnoVEX,’ project pitching with US $30,000 winning prize, match-making meeting and networking where we can meet investors and strategic partners as well as keynote address and forum, and product and solution demos will be progressed.

Computex 2016 will be held with the scale of and 5,009 booths and 1,602 exhibitors from 30 countries participate. With the event’s new positioning strategy, as of May 28, the number of online-registered international buyers reaches 15,541 including more than 200 SIs, global VC and crowdfunding, and the number is an increase of 3.8% from the last year. Moreover, the number of participating countries is increased 36% from the last year, and the proportion of participants who participate for the first time reaches 23%.



IoT related global market is rapidly growing, and it is estimated that the size of the market would reach $1.7 trillion. The main themes in IoT are Smart Manufacturing, security, smart home and entertainment, wearable, automobile related, IoT solution, 3D printer, etc. Also, ‘Virtual Cockpit’ of Audi, ‘Industry 4.0’ of Siemens, ‘Zenvolution’ of Asus, ‘Industry IoT’ of Advantech, etc. are introduced.

It is introduced that Taiwan is in the position of providing various advantages to startup companies. Firstly, it is geographically in the position of playing a ‘gateway’ role in Asia market, and well-developed human resources are sufficient. It also has many financial support policies and a policy related to IP protection. It is emphasized that Taiwan is one of few places where a complete supply chain related to ICT and an experience aspect of a process from implementing an idea to manufacturing a product is prepared so that all the process to commercialization can be progressed.

‘InnoVEX,’ newly presented at Computex 2016, claims to support a platform for startup. In this year, 217 companies from 22 countries participated, and among them, 25 companies that won international awards are included. A match-making meeting and networking where we can meet investors and strategic partners, project pitching with US $30,000 winning prize, as well as keynote address and forum, and product and solution demos are planned, and 10 domestic startups will participate in Korean Pavilion arranged by KOTRA.

In ‘gaming,’ one of the main themes of the event, manufacturers related to hardware such as gaming PC and GPU, graphic card, memory, and gaming hear will participate to present products. Moreover, as a related event, global overclocking competition of HWBOT is introduced. More than 20 global top-class overclockers will compete, and broadcasting will be live-streaming serviced through Twitch. Apart from this, it is introduced that Samsung Electronics and HTC will attend VR experience of InnoVEX.



As a main event progressed in the event, releases of companies’ new products, startup pitch&demo, various forums and keynotes, d&i awards exhibition, overclocking competition and B2B meeting are mentioned. Also, many requirements from participants are accepted through various events. In aspect of forum and keynote, CPX conference that will be progressed for two days, May 31 and June 1. The conference is one of the main events of the Computex where main leaders of the industry participate.

At InnoVEX, forums with various themes related to startup will be progressed on two stages. As main themes, startup ecosystem, sharing of successful cases, diagnosis of trends, AI, VR, etc. are mentioned. Besides, there are also Intel, which is the main player of IT related industry, and forum by Mircosoft. Mircrosoft shares modern windows device and improvement of experience through the forum, and Intel and Siemens share visions about the next generation computing, IoT innovation and industry 4.0 through e21 forum.

The 9th Computex d&i Awards has been together with iF. In this year, 253 products from 108 companies in 12 countries were nominated, and finally 87 products from 46 companies are awarded. As important things in this year’s award, establishments of two categories, which are a combination of wearable and smart application, and combination of smart home and security, and ‘Rising Stat’ award, which contains a meaning of providing an opportunity for startups to be with major players are pointed out.
